Ant Control Services

One of the most common pest problems to deal with are ants. Many species of ants have adapted well to human presence and are happy to live among us, taking advantage of the readily available food, water, and shelter that we provide for them. Below we'll cover some of the most common species we encounter here in Northern Illinois.

Odorous House Ant

These are, by far, the most troublesome of the ant family, due to their tendency to infest structures. These ants are small, about 1/16" - 1/8" long, and they get their name from the strong, almost pine scented odor that they release when crushed. Usually, ants are found nesting in the ground, but this species can nest in structures around pipes, under slabs, and we've even found their nests inside walls behind wall outlets. Due to this behavior, a thorough inspection is needed to locate them and know where to apply a treatment for lasting control.

Pavement Ant

Have you ever noticed sand-like piles around your driveway or sidewalks? These are most likely pavement ants. These are another small ant, about the same size as odorous house ants, and are often confused with them. Nests tend to be found outside, but they will invade inside if conditions allow.

Carpenter Ant

Carpenter ants are large, usually measuring 1/4" - 1/2" long. These ants do not feed on wood, as commonly thought, but will make their nests in it. They prefer to nest in damp, water damaged wood, and can sometimes indicate a moisture problem in the home. Dead branches on trees or improperly stored firewood can also be culprits.

If you're having trouble dealing with ants, we have programs available to help you get them under control for the whole season.
